In this year, school desegregation is happening for the first time, bringing black and white children from different neighborhoods into the same classrooms. In this year, the dawning of rock'n'roll is giving teenagers their first slice of a musical world that will become uniquely their own. In this year, the influx of automobiles becomes a powerful force in America, allowing people the mobility and privacy to travel at will--to see things right in their own hometown that were previously unknown to them. And in this year, the Kurtzman family developed a newly heightened understanding of what it means to be Jewish in a rapidly growing world in this story which examines the changing times of the mid-1950s and issues of race, class and religious distinction as seen through the eyes of a particular American family.

Historia acerca de las diferencias y similitudes entre razas y religiones!!!
Some people rave about this film - I was not blown away by it, but it was definitely worth watching.

The way the story, the script, the directing, and the acting blend together so beautifully it's hard to really critique it. You could ask me specifically why I love this film so much, I probably couldn't give you a straight answer, it was a real, honest film that seemed like it wasn't trying at all. It's something that an average moviegoer and a professional critic would love, with some of the funniest/most awkward moments in cinema that I've seen, and moments of deep conflicting issues on race and religion. I kept forgetting that I was watching a film made in the 90's, and not the 50's. The language was so accurate and there were many sayings and activities mentioned that you could swear is was made back then. I recommend this to everyone. Really, go see it now.
This movie was just not made for me but if your jewish or coloured it is strongly suggested Enjoy!

Ben Foster is a great actor that deserves more recognition and more roles. Loved him in this, as well as, of course, Adrien Brody. I like how each of their individual stories all seem to entertwine and come together in the end. The subplot of the Kurtzman father's shady business was a little odd to me and didn't exactly seem to fit with the whole storyline, but all in all, a decent movie with an interesting story.
Good acting and interesting story revolving around Ben Foster & Adrien Brody.
I'm certainly a fan of Barry Levinson and his movies. However, this wasn't quite as potent as some of his others. Great cast, though.
Forgettable coming of age story that, despite of the truth about racial disharmony during this time, never really seems to take itself seriously.

i kept thinking something way more epic was going to happen, but i guess i'm glad nothing did. aw ben foster aw.

It was too light hearted to be serious, but had too many dark scenes to be a comedy. Some of the side characters were just thrown in for connivence sake and did not feel like they belonged. Most of the dialogue revolved around being Jewish, so you probably would enjoy it more if you are a member of the tribe.
