Crazy doctor cannot forget a woman, so he first amputates her legs and then her arms so she can't get away from him. He's pathetic, but she's such a bitch you almost feel she deserves it.
One of THE worst films that I have ever seen. Will go down in history as one of the biggest failures ever. It is pretty hilarious, though. Jennifer Lynch needs to take a lesson or two from her father.

It looks like a made for TV film, the acting is poor, the characters annoying and the ending is unforgivable. Fenn was at her best when in her box, but did I miss what happened to her arms?
I have to say I was taught in school never to end a story like this one ends, and I cringed when I realised that was what had happened. The core idea was there but they botched it. Badly.
Haven't seen this flick since '94, but still it is not easy to forget. Creepy to the max.

I'd forgotten just how amazingly terrible this film is. Not only is the plot ludicrous, but the acting is just terrible. Julian Sands is probably the single most annoyingly whiny character ever captured on film. And Bill Paxton hams it up like you wouldn't believe, and wears some sweet outfits to boot. A hilariously cheesy "erotic thriller" that is worth a million laughs. I wonder if David Lynch ever watches this and wonders if Jennifer is really the milkman's daughter?

So he throws her in the ocean and goes, "There, you're fucked!" - Some asshole. Boxing Helena is the directorial debut of David Lynch's daughter, Jennifer (whose new film, Surveillance, I'm reviewing next). There was a lot of controversy surrounding the film before its release, because Kim Basinger dropped out of the lead so the producers sued her. I guess the dumb blonde actually thought they were going to cut off her arms and legs and shove her in a box. That's all I was hoping for and expecting out of this movie, a girl getting her arms and legs cut off and being stuck in a box. But in my fucked up imagination, I imagined something far more extreme than what you'll find in this film. Julian Sands (who I'll always remember as the awesome title character in Warlock) plays a rich doctor who falls in love with and starts stalking this beautiful woman he once had an affair with. She's too busy now fucking a FULL-FRONTAL Bill Paxton, so he lures her to his home under false pretenses. When she runs away, she is hit by a car which crushes her legs. So basically, being a renowned surgeon, he cuts them off and keeps her in his house captive. She is such a fucking cock-teasing bitch I couldn't wait for him to cut off her arms. When she starts throwing shit at him and slapping him I was like CUT OFF THE FUCKING CUNTS ARMS ALREADY! You really feel no sympathy for her. Later her arms are missing (as is the scene where that happens), and she eventually starts developing STOCKHOLM'S SYNDROME and falls for the guy. Pretty good directorial debut from Jennifer Lynch, too bad it took her 15 years to come out with another movie.
very sick movie but liked it a lot, not for individuals "living in a box" though

Sands's antics go from whining at Helena to go out with him at parties to spying on her and one of her boyfriends (Bill Paxton in a mesh shirt!), and then escalate to keeping her trapped in his house and 'nursing her back to health' a la 'Whatever Happened to Baby Jane' in a relationship that just spirals into the ground, of one repulsive personality doing terrible things to another repulsive personality. A final twist makes the body of the film feel like a sick joke on the viewer. It was probably worth it, Mz. Basinger.

I won't say that the acting and the realization of the screenplay, or the screenplay itself was the best, but the idea alone was enough provoking. To me, it was the same horror level as Audition (Takashi Miike). It makes me wonder, whether love, to some degree, is just an obsession and desire for possession. And with a sick and repressed mind, imagine what it can turn into. It's deeply haunting. The ending was so unexpected and somewhat relieving actually.
