A group of incompetent cops ally with Ice Cube and his useless minions to battle improbable proto-Reavers and put a black mark on all their acting careers.
Decent but gives too much away too soon. Fails to build suspense. Tries to set up Ice Cube's character as a Snake Plissken type role.
It is apparent that sometime in the 90's John Carpenter lost his mind.
Despite sporting terrible editing, ablissmal dialogue/acting and Ice Cube, this is a good candidate for the best worst movie I have ever seen.

It plays out like the Resident Evil movie and the Doom movie combined which is funny because GoM looks and feels like it could be based off of a game itself.
It's premise is awesome (yet full of holes in logic) and there are a few cool scenes. However, it ultimately feels as if it's trapped in the 80's and while it might have flown better back then, it clashes with itself in this day in age.
I just remembered that I indeed have seen this movie. It was so-so.. Hmm...
I've actually come around quite a bit on this one. It's still really retarded, but that's kind of become endearing to me. I mean...it's super violent and campy with a great hardcore female lead, it can't be ALL bad. It also continues his 90s traditio... (read more) I've actually come around quite a bit on this one. It was ok, but not great. Aliens esq type storyline only with Marilyn Manson as the lead bad guy. Quite actiony for Carpenter but has aspects of his traits. I understand why fans dont like this one. It struggles to feel like a JC film.

After watching it again ive changed my mind slightly in that in its setting and score lies its aesthtic. Although it is a death metalish score it fits the tone perfectly. Its a good action sci fi piece but still has its problems.
For what it's worth, this is not a good movie. This was released during the big Mars movies craze earlier this decade. No wonder Robert Carradine took a role in Lizzy McGuire. It was better than his small performance in this movie. Bad movie! Bad! Bad! BAD!!

The story, while interesting on paper, doesn't translate well on the screen. By that I don't mean the basic story of being trapped with things outside trying to kill you, I mean the whole "Ghosts" of Mar business is just too silly. The cast is a mismatch or decent actors who dont work very well together and havent been given a decent script to work with. Statham is probably the best of the bunch and he has hair! Unfortunately this is one of Carpenter's weakest films despite basically being Assault on Precinct 13...in space. Not required viewing unless you are a Carpenter completist like me!
