The two accept Redford's deal, and their marriage is ruined. The twist in the film, though, is that the sin doesn't lie with the rich guy, but rather with this unfocused, immature, equivocating couple who would do such a thing, naively believing it would get their lives on track. Director Adrian Lyne, who caused an even greater stir by filming Lolita (the one starring Jeremy Irons), thus pulls a kind of thinking person's bait and switch, promising something tawdry and then turning the story around so its focus is on a rite of passage for the estranged spouses. Still, Lyne has some peculiarly garish ideas at times: the final disposition of that million dollars is like a joke out of Monty Python. --Tom Keogh

There are so many things wrong with it it's a bit difficult to know where to begin. The tone is severely inconsistent and often wrong. There are so many scenes filled with oddly gushing romantic music it makes one question the sanity of those involved with the production. The architecture of the picture is all wrong as well. Who wants to see Redford play this type of character? He's far too likeable to really pull it off. We never quite believe he's capable of the things he does and we really don't want Moore to end up with Harrelson anyway. It usually isn't a plus if the audience is disappointed with the ending. The script is ridiculous enough even without all the other missteps. It just skips through large chunks of the story and doesn't seem plausible in the other sections. It had me going for a while, but in the end it more than lost me. This could definitely have used more than a few test screenings, followed by a few rounds of rewrites, reshoots, and edits. Of course, it could have just used a different writer, different director, and different cast to begin with.
If you want something very badly
set it free.
If it comes back to you,
it's yours forever.
If it doesn't
it was never yours to begin with.
I offer you 1 million Dollars for a night with your wife. as in the Box what would you do for a Million Dollars?
could you really lend some stranger your wife just for a night, for one million dollars? - "Have i told you that i love you?"-
Interesting concept and I would recommend this movie. Entertaining story line. As provocative as the title describes. One Demi Moore's best movies!
I watched the film just recently and I didn't expect it to be good. The twist & incredible situation made the film interesting til the end.
