Out of Sight (1998)
Albert Brooks, Catherine Keener, Dennis Farina
George Clooney, as a career bank robber with more charm than sense, and Jennifer Lopez, as a by-the-book federal marshal with the unpredictable heart of a romantic, give "opposites attract" new meaning in Steven Soderbergh's funny, smart adaptation of Elmore Leonard's novel.

This was Steven Soderberghs first mainstream movie. Up to this point he had done mostly indie type movies. For starters, you can't go wrong with an Elmore Leonard story as the premise for your first big movie!

George Clooney began a long partnership with Soderbergh with this movie. Clooney plays Jack Foley, a storied bank robber, who has the misfortune of meeting karen Sisco, played by Jennifer Lopez. Karen Sisco is a U.S. marshall, and sparks fly when she & Foley meet.
This complicated relationship is the nexus of the story. A con & a cop who fall for one another. That and a planned robbery of Albert Brooks character.
Which brings me to the supporting cast. Albert Brooks, Catherine Keener, Dennis Farina, Don Cheadle, Even Isaiah Washington years before Grey's Anatomy. Stellar ensemble cast!
One of the nifty things is the casting of Michael Keaton. In 1997, he starred in Quentin Tarantino's Jackie Brown as Ray Nicholette, ATF agent. He was cast in this movie to play the same character. Both movies are based on Elmore Leonard novels!
Very well directed & scripted. I would put this up against any of Soderburghs more recent work for comparison.
If you like Soderburgh, Leonard, or Clooney give it a look. If you like crime stories, watch it. If you want to watch a good love story, check this movie out.
Also, for those of you keeping track, I know I am. 5 heroes in this movie!
George Clooney-Batman in Batman & Robin
Dennis Farina- Wildcat in Justice League Unlimited
Don Cheadle- War Machine in Iron Man 2
Samuel L. Jackson- Nick Fury in Iron Man
Michael Keaton- Batman in Batman

All the supporting performances are sterling, especially Ving Rhames as Clooney' partner-in-crime.
Steven Soderbergh shows why he is one of the hottest directors in town.

George Clooney a Bank Robber who breaks out of jail has one last score in mind before he disapears Enjoy!
I watched this over and over for a period. The actors are all so great, even J-Lo delivers. The script is sharp, and Soderbergh just makes it snap. Very crisp and cool and some groovy tracks.
One of my favorite romantic movies, Clooney and Lopez have chemistry that just leaps off the screen!

Clooney is great, as is the supporting cast--Steve Zahn, Don Cheadle, Albert Brooks, Catherine Keener, and an odd ending with Samuel L. Jackson. Even Jennifer Lopez isn't bad. It's fun, funny, exciting, sad, suspenseful, sexy, and stylish. It's a little uneven at times, occasionally a little bit too focused on entertainment at the expense of anything substantial, but it's great fun, and there's a lot of really lovely personality to it. Not perfect, but terrific stuff.

"Out of sight" e' costruito con ironia, avanza con movimenti ondulatori e geniali espedienti stilistici ("stopframe" incantevoli, flashback repentini, salti temporali e divagazioni). La Lopez sexy come non mai (la scena nel portabagagli e' da ricordare), mentre Clooney si muove lungo tutto il film con fascino ed eleganza.

The cinematography complements the distinctiveness of Soderbergh's highly distinctive visual style that brings to life the bright colors of Miami, as well as the dark hues of New York. The performances by the esemble cast are rock solid. George Clooney finally hits his stride as the charismatic leading man he always had the potential to be, and his swagger is undeniable as the bank robber, Jack Foley; as is his chemistry with leading lady Jennifer Lopez. The interplay off of Clooney and Lopez is a huge reason for the film working as well as it did, and it is some of the best work either of them have done in their careers. Also noteworthy is Don Cheadle, who is just tremendous in his supporting role as the antagonist Maurice, AKA: "Snoopy." This is the first time I really see Cheadle come into his own and command the scenes he's in with his timing and his comedic wit. Overall, a great film, and Soderbergh's best since "Sex, Lies and Videotape."
