Captain EO (1986)
Michael Jackson, Anjelica Huston, Dick Shawn
Captain Eo and his rugged crew set out on a mission to deliver a special gift to a wicked queen who lives on a dark, desolate world. Getting there is half the fun, especially when the good captain starts boogying and the special effects start flying.

Saw this at Disney many years ago and loved it. Remember some flying thing that everyone was trying to grab.

This 17 minute film is interesting for a few reasons. Firstly, its Michael Jackson in between Thriller and Bad, so right at his peak here, I wont say he does his best âactingâ work here (he was a capable actor see âThe Wizâ) but heâs not terrible either. Secondly, this was a collaboration between George Lucas and Francis Ford Coppola. They must have thought they were creating spun gold back in the day. Thirdly, this was right after the release of Return Of The Jedi, so you get the sense there was a lot of unused Henson muppets intended for ROTJ that ended up here. So, I can imagine this being totally kick ass back in 1986 or whenever it came out, and in some waysâ¦it holds up reasonably okay. The again, its essentially an extended video clip, so lets not get carried away shall we.
Too bad they never released this....This was awesome in 3D at epcot..They should denfinitly release now with M jacksons passing.
Is Captain EO Coppola's best film after his Apocalypse Now breakdown? It just might be, but that's not saying much.

Halfway through, I was thinking, who is this woman and where is Michael Jackson? Then it dawned on me. MJ didn't make sense to me back then, and it went downhill from there. I guess I think it is cool that someone grew up (or tried) to be Peter Pan, innocent and childlike, except that it didn't seem to work out too well overall (disaster). Wow I think I just reviewed a person's life as a tangent on a review of a 17 minute movie I saw over 20 years ago. And that's all I have to say about that.
Oh, it was my first 3D movie. The interesting furry creatures that were in my face were interesting enough to boost the rating to a full star!
