Like Graffiti, it has its fair share of laughs and all of the characters are very likable. But at the same time, I wasn't around in the 50s so it's hard for me to really understand how accurately the decade is portrayed here. Still, Diner is an entertaining film, and it's awesome to see all of the future stars that came out of this.
A more sophisticated college angst film about guys growing up and using women for their own gains. A lot of stars got their start here but this movie is a snoozer.

Now I know why Barry Levinson has the reputation he does.

Classic. Its smartest move is not letting the title hamstring it. Now I finally know where the popcorn joke came from.
"Kids did this"
"Do you have an Emerson? I hear they are very good"
" that's the left side of the menu!, Earl are you going for the entire left side?

I had forgotten what a good actor he used to be, so gentle and beautiful in this role, even though he was the big guy his friends looked up to.
Steve Guttenberg is great among others like Mickey Rourke, Kevin Bacon, Daniel Stern who reminds me of my friend Brent in Carbondale in this movie. Anyway a fun watch.
It's a great film I watched in film school and liked enough to buy. Such great actors in it!!

One of the best " buddy " films of it's generation. Perhaps the most memorable aspect of this film is simply the relationships between the characters themselves. The actors that pulled off this wonderful feat are at the initial cusp of their careers. However, the array of male talent almost seems a bizarre combination when looked at in present times. This was Mickey Rourke at his alpha male best ...before his "psychosis" set in. This was Kevin Bacon, so good in this film, that it wasn't until afterward that you realized he wasn't a real life functioning alcoholic. This was Steven Guttenberg and Paul Reiser in roles that best featured their comedic/actor talents. Daniel Stern plays a more mature and more intelligent version of the character he played in "Breaking Away."
I wish I knew a place like that to eat in...,
I'm a bit torn by this one. Melodramatic buddy flicks have their place, and this is an excellent one. Good to great acting help out the slower moving plot. Even with all its accolades, it's still an underappreciated gem
Diner is often a very funny movie, although I laughed most freely not at the sexual pranks but at the movie's accurate ear, as it reproduced dialogue with great comic accuracy.full review
