Milla is memorizing in this but the plot is difficult to follow and the supporting cast is not at their best.

Liked it when I first saw it as a kid, bought and watched it recently and I realise it's shockingly bad.

Bien que parfois lacunaire et sujet a quelques maladresses, Jeanne d'Arc reste un film d'action reussi, relativement realiste malgre son manque de rigueur historique, auquel certains acteurs de tres bon niveau (Cassel, Karyo,etc...) apportent une touche d'humour surprenante bien bienvenue. Une reussite.

One of the most beautiful films I have ever seen. This really took any of Besson's work to the next level as well as Milla.

This was pretty good. It shows Joan of Arc, not as some great lady, but as someone who's crazy. She also wiggs out when she sees what real violence is. I like heroes to be flawed. Putting everything on a pedestal is stupid.

I popped in this movie again because for all its flaws, it's actually not that bad of a movie. I love Luc Besson films, and the cinematography is always top-notch, but the real weak point here is the writing. Besson and Andrew Birkin (who actually plays Talbot in the film) teamed up for the screenplay and although conceptual and wonderfully visual, lacks a final definition of the story. The acting is commendable, showcasing veteran French actors Tcheky Karyo and Vincent Cassel. Of course Milla Jovovich's interpretation is unexpected, fidgety, and nervous, but all to the benefit of the film. All in all, not a bad evening. At well over two hours, it does get to be quite a commitment, but it goes fairly smooth. Concept and story are great, execution (no pun intended) could have been better.
