Zellweger has a tendency to overplay it sometimes, but this is her best role; she is utterly charming. She has also never been cuter. Firth and Grant are two favorites and they have the perfect chemistry for this. It's nice to see Jim Broadbent and Shirley Henderson pop up as well. It gets a bit too cartoonish occasionally and it's completely silly, but Bridget Jones's Diary is tries (and succeeds) in showing two characters realizing they are actually falling in love.
Hugh and Renee are so funny! You just have to laugh all the time. A typical woman with self-irony. A lovable movie.
I wonder if it is so obvious with women that Hugh was a shallow cad? When women watch this movie do they see his betrayal coming? Do they see that Firth is actually the good guy who doesn't appear so good?
Or is it just in real life?

This was the second in my Thanksgiving trilogy of chick flicks, complimenting sisterhood of the traveling pants and Fried Green Tomatoes. These three movies show women at three stages of life. I figured I would understand women better after watching it, but, of course, I just walked away kind of mystified at how chick flicks always make me misty.
Anyway, Bridget is a good watch if it comes on cable, nothing particularly original or thought inspiring. Just a fun movie with brilliant dialogue and some funny moments. It probably would have worked better if she had been a little less attrative.
Um...sounds REALLY STUPID. Is this Hugh Grant's breakthrough, or did they just hardcore fail at making him look younger?

Renee Zellweger is great. The Jerry Maguire star adds a few extra pounds and gains a British accent to pull off author Helen Fielding's Bridget Jones perfectly. Bridget is a thirtysomething who is heavy on the alcohol and cigarettes, and has a bad attraction to her boss, played brilliantly by Hugh Grant. Colin Firth rounds out a love triangle of sorts as the man who likes Bridget "just as she is." This movie was laugh-out-loud hilarious and all three leads were fantastic, with help from Jim Broadbent (Bridget's dad) and Gemma Jones (Bridget's mum).
I love Hugh Grant...haha..even if he does play the bad boy in this movie. I think this is something every woman struggles with at one point or another. I would choose either guy personally ;) but that's just me. haha

Let me say in Bridget Jonesy fashion that Zellweger is an irresistible sex goddess, hurrah!!!full review
The script is teasingly, pleasingly raunchy in places.full review
A story like this can't work unless we feel unconditional affection for the heroine, and casting Zellweger achieves that.full review
Delivers frisky fun for bruised romantics regardless of age, sex or nationality.full review
