Not that the movieâs perfect by any means, the script consists of characters either yelling pointlessly at one another or reading their character notes aloud to no one in particular, and Cameron Diaz is a weak link in the cast. What it does have is a visceral feel, a bombastic look and tons of hyper-real sound design which I thought worked more times than it didn't, but then again I usually buy what Oliver Stone is selling. The gratuitous-but-memorable 'eye damage' scene almost seems to be daring film critics to complain the film did the same thing to them, but this film's proven so influential on the look of modern sportscasts that it's clearly been borne out by history.

Pacino's locker room speech is also one of the greatest of all time in my mind, without a doubt.
A well constructed film by Oliver Stone, when he was still edgy, but only for real football fans I'm afraid...
Yeah! That's it! Extreme editing, hard hitting music, a story that's worth following - even if you're not into football at all.
This movie is two dead hookers away from being a Hollywood block party. Honestly, everyone is in this movie. Alpa, Diaz, Dennis Frickin Quaid, LL Cool J, who's not even an actor, he just walked on the set and they filmed him.

This is the most incredibly intense sports movie ever. There's lightning bolts and chairs being thrown and shit. I don't know why, I just didn't really like this film. The intensity and slo-mo was forced, and I hate Quaid's face for some reason.
shaking super tele lens makes the match scenes look like battle scenes! never expected american football story would also be so good
Stone isn't interested in merely bashing modern football: Any Given Sunday looks at the best and worst of the sport. The film also doesn't disappoint from an acting standpoint; with a cast like this it could hardly miss.
