Neither a concert film, nor a biographical documentary, film examines the birth of a comedy act and offers a window into the details of backstage life and the challenge of making people laugh. Seinfeld is revealed in ways no one has seen before: struggling with difficult material; confronting self-doubt; accepting the help of friends and colleagues, simply as another comedian trying to put together an act. On stage, Seinfeld talks about marriage, recalls his time as the country's most eligible bachelor and offers new perspectives on the observations of the every day. But it is off-stage - where he shares the struggle with other comics including Colin Quinn, Chris Rock, Gary Shandling and Jay Leno -that a more personal, alternately funny and surprising, portrait emerges.

An interesting documentary about the world of stand-up that also focuses on the post-Seinfeld world of Jerry. I am normally not a big Jerry Seinfeld fan, but I enjoyed this movie, there were some funny moments.
If you ever feel like giving up doing something that you love, just watch this...
being a comic aint rosy... whether youre a rookie like orny adams or a pro like jerry seinfeld... watch it

The movie is mostly following Jerry Seinfeld and Orny Adams (Orny was the worst choice to put in the movie because you hate his guts) as they try to rise in the ranks of stardom. THe documentary is laborious and much less funny then their stand up. It cool to hear quips from all their funny celebrity friends but that's the extent of the enjoyment. Also for a documentary with such huge names in it, you think you would get better film quality. THe Blair Witch Project was shot better then this. If your interested in seeing stand up or a good documentary, rent something else.
still holds up as a great inside look into the neurotic life of a comedian. Orny makes a good semi-villain but basically disappears eventually.
Interesting for any fan of comedy in the sense that it allows insight into the psyche of a comedy legend, showing him as a bundle of nerves and neuroses and doubt far removed from the iconic performer of television fame. Orny Adams offers a sort of polar opposite of Seinfeld, who envies and craves his fame but lacks his love and passion for comedy. Not nearly funny enough for a documentary about comedy, but worth considering nonetheless.
A great documentary behind what goes down in a comedian's life and their material. Features some of the greatest comedians of all time. I will agree that Orny Adams is a bit on the whiny side here - and that does take a way from the film a little. O... A behind-the-scenes look at the comedy world, as we watch Jerry Seinfeld start from scratch with a brand new comedy routine. It's even more interesting how not funny the whole process is.
A good look at how a stand-up comedian attempting to make it big and also Jerry Seinfeld's working his way back into the circuit.
Critic Reviews
It's refreshing to see a celebrity documentary that isn't focused on the celebrity, but on the art that made him who he is.full review
There are no deep revelations, no shocking moments of truth, and many, many conversations in which Seinfeld and other comics discuss their acts with discouragement and despair.full review
A portrait of a man who can make a joke out of anything -- except comedy, which, after all, is a serious business.full review
An indispensable peek at the art and the agony of making people laugh.full review
