Multiple writers were brought in to work the script, and in this case the synergy was something special. From the discussion early on referencing Clausewitz (with Denzel concluding that war itself is the enemy in modern warfare), to Tarantino's Silver Surfer fight (I wouldnt be surprised if he had a hand in the Captain Kirk bit, too), these touches add texture to the script.

But the magic is in the handling of the relationship between D.W. and G.H., a balance of respect and contention with their actions confined to their respective reading of the Naval Code.

Doesnt hurt having Viggo Mortensen and James Gandolfini as supporting players...

Submarine movies in general are among my favorites and this one starring Washington and Hackman is a nice one to see.

Crimson Tide has everything you could want from an action thriller and a few other things you usually can't hope to expect.

This is the rare kind of war movie that not only thrills people while they're watching it, but invites them to leave the theater actually discussing the issues.
