(edit - ok so I've watched this again and admittedly is not as terrible as I first thought. I suspect that a lack of James Cameron or Linda Hamilton kinda clouded my judgement (no pun intented) at the time - making me determined to hate it, but watching it for what it is, it certainly has some great action sequences and some of the dialogue is amusing in places. Obviously it's nowhere near the quality of the first 2 but in hindsight it's a good laugh and certainly adds some important info to the terminator canon.)
There had always been the want for a third Terminator, but this was a huge letdown.
First female robot ever - Kristanna Loken did a good job.
However, I think the part of John Connor fits better to Christian Bale.
A lame excuse of a money maker ruining an awesome franchise.
A disgwace to the wegiment.
Funny, self-referential...would have been a good end to the Terminator saga (but they had to go foul it up with Salvation).
Surprisingly serviceable. This story hardly needed to be told, but it's worth it for the no-compromise ending. After all the touchy-feely of T2, the series needed a punch in the neck.
Terminator 3 is somewhat of a rehash of the previous installments. The special effects are updated and this time they have a female terminator trying to kill John Connor. The ending is actually surprising and gives the series a whole new twist.
In the post Matrix Reloaded world, these action scenes do not cut it. And in a post T2 world, neither does the story, nor the villain.
Critic Reviews
The villain comes back more times than Wile E. Coyote. I found it tiresome and witless and numbingly repetitive, but action mavens won't feel cheated.full review
Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines may lack the mythic pow of the 1984 original and the visionary thrill of T2, but it's a potent popcorn movie that digs in its hooks and doesn't let go until an ending that ODs on apocalyptic hoo-ha.full review
There's a flat feeling about this effort that's unmistakable and inescapable.full review
T3 director Jonathan Mostow delivers a high-energy barrage of special effects gee-wizardry that self-effacingly mimics Cameron's style.full review
Essentially one long chase and fight, punctuated by comic, campy or simplistic dialogue.full review
Holds our interest but lacks the punch of its predecessors.full review
Terminator 3 moves at not-quite-breakneck speed, and the shape-shifting, metal-melting special effects aren't exactly spectacular.full review
Terminator 3 is essentially a B movie, content to be loud, dumb and obvious.full review
