Great visual display and great performance by Salma Hayek. The movie didn't exactly blow me away though.
wasn't sure about watching this film, but i'm so glad I did!! It's a very powerful film; very intense and artistic. Molina and Hayek have a great connection
Very Boring, Could Not Get Into This Film At All. Hayek And Molina Were Great Though.
Noooo! me pareció muuy buena ... Sin palabras después de haber visto sus obras en el Museo Nacional ... Genial ;)
diluar kehidupan pribadi dia yg berwarna dan hmmm.... film ni bikin ak kagum ma dia dan karya2 surealis nya yg sekaligus jd diari dokumentasi hidup dia
I loved it. Fantastic. Incredible and beautiful. She's bold and daring and never compromised. She was true to herself. Salma Hayek was beautiful and intense. Gorgeous movie.
colourful, rich, extreme and lively; just like her paintings. it reminds me that the best that we can do in our lives is to add to or create an art which vaguely resembles fractions of our own torturous and gratifying existence.
Salma Hayek pretty much owns it, and Julie Taymor's direction is immensely creative, especially in the way that she makes the film reinforce Frida's entire body of work. My only complaint is that I kinda wish this was less about her on-again-off-agai... My only complaint is that I kinda wish this was less about her on-again-off-again relationship with Diego Rivera and a little more focused on Frida as a person and as an artist... I'm a little saddened by the number of biopics about female artists that define them almost exclusively on their relationships with men, but then again that was the subject matter for a lot of Frida's greatest art, so you obviously can't ignore it. Anyway, it's a damn good movie with some amazing acting, cinematography, and music, so you should go rent it if you haven't already.
Frida Kahlo, an eccentric artist who was played brilliantly by Salma Hayek, in arguably her best film role to date. It's a movie that makes you more fascinated about the film's subject long after its conclusion, and if you are a fan of surrealist art... It's a movie that makes you more fascinated about the film's subject long after its conclusion, and if you are a fan of surrealist art, you may find yourself looking up more about Frida. If a film helps you to do that, I'd say it's successful.
Critic Reviews
Just as in Kahlo's life, Rivera is the commanding centrifugal force of Taymor's film, and remains the best reason to sit through the otherwise uneven, mildly captivating Frida.full review
It's enough to make you scurry off to find a book about Frida Kahlo -- which is, perhaps, the ultimate compliment for a film biography.full review
Sometimes we feel as if the film careens from one colorful event to another without respite, but sometimes it must have seemed to Frida Kahlo as if her life did, too.full review
Taymor's movie version of Kahlo's life, Frida, makes the artist seem more like a human being and less like a craft-fair novelty than she has in years.full review
This is undoubtedly the strongest performance of [Hayek's] career, and her passion for the project is palpable.full review
The further it strays from sober naturalism, the better Frida is.full review
Hamstrung by a script that seems determined to stop at all the big moments in Frida's life without giving anything time to resonate.full review
