Somehow managing to raise the money to pay for the all-star ensemble cast, the producer of this messy pseudo babble gets both of the stars.
The first half of the movie was so much fun. I dont know where it gets lost, but it does. My type?Totally=/

The cast is part of the fun and part of the problem with the quirky/awkward mix here: Schwartzman can be excellent, but here is performance just suffices. Hoffman and Tomlin are a great pair, and Isabelle Huppert is hilariously droll as their nemesis/greatest ally. Law and Watts seem awkwad at first, but Law manages to really pull his character out of overblown caricature and make him real while Watts never seems to really entirely understand what she's doing. The real standout is Whalberg, who hits every moment and completely blows away any memory of past/future disappointing performances with this hilarious turn as an existentially confused fireman. So much fun stuff and awesome ideas here, it may be something of a mess, but I Heart Huckabees is the kind of mess you wish we saw more of: ambitious, entertaining and unique.
Wow, I never thought I'd be able to finish this movie, yet I did and it was totally not worth it!

I really enjoy the dialog of the film and all the actors in it. Jason Schwartzman was just great and I loved his character. His "other" in the movie was Mark Wahlberg who was also great. The two personalities of them together just made the movie that much more interesting. Lily Tomlin and Dustin Hoffman's characters were very humorous. They were really out there. The only actor I didn't like was Jude Law. He was trying to do an American accent and you could still hear his original voice every now and then. The story was pretty strange but had an interesting meaning which I kind of agree with. The whole film was a strange take on life in general. This is a great example of an excellent film that does not use explosions or CG to keep your interested. It uses good old classic smarts and dialog.
one of the craziest plots i've ever seen; REALLY! laughed and got pretty darn lost too!
Critic Reviews
There's ambition here, as well as a shaggy brilliance and a rare willingness on the part of a director to work out his questions in front of us, on film.full review
I don't quite know what the point of it all was, but I do know that I enjoyed watching it.full review
The movie is like an infernal machine that consumes all of the energy it generates, saving the last watt of current to turn itself off. It functions perfectly within its constraints, but it leaves the viewer out of the loop.full review
The movie fails, I'm convinced, because it approaches the problem philosophically instead of psychologically.full review
Russell wants us to care about these deeper meanings, but he can't lead us to see them for ourselves.full review
An encouraging push in the right direction for cinema which can be equally absorbing and entertaining.full review
Russell is a true original. It's not in his DNA to play it safe. He's a rebel Pied Piper, and Huckabees is one more reason to follow him anywhere.full review
If it had the unwavering focus and clear-eyed vision of Russell's previous two features, I Heart Huckabees might have been brilliant.full review
