The prizes? First prize is a Cadillac Eldorado, second prize is a set of steak knives, third prize is the sack! There is no room for losers in this dramatically masculine world; only "closers" will get the good sales leads. There is a lot of pressure to succeed, so a robbery is committed which has unforeseen consequences for all the characters.

The film understandably comes across as more of a stage piece, and I think is stronger because of it.
For me, it's my 'chill-out' movie. Mamet's words work like Jazz in this one. Just a classic film, with one of, for me THE greatest cast put on film. Foley's simple and subtle direction works amazingly. Should be taught in English and Film classes.
A superb, biting indictment of the "selling" of America--SALESMANSHIP at it's brilliant and sleazy worst (shaking down the naively defenseless public with phone-pitched Florida land development schemes.)

Excellent David Mamet screenplay. Jack Lemmon in perhaps his most powerful dramatic performance, with top support from Al Pacino , Alan Arkin et al.
The language is pretty strong at times--some stretches of "f" word--, but totally expressive of the tense, explosive competitiveness in the office, the raw inside reality vs. the smooth, perfectly crafted sales "image."
this movie is really interesting. It is one of those movies where you know it should be good, but you dont really understand where it is going,

If your in sales, this is ONE OF THE BEST movies I've ever seen with an all-star cast rarely seen together. A Must See!

Al Pacino, Alan Arkin, Alec Baldwin, Ed Harris, Jack Lemmon, Kevin Spacey and briefly Jonathan Pryce, you can't really go wrong. Every single actor is incredible, and the swinging camera directions just adds a touch of class. Brilliant script, and an interesting storyline.
It was an all-star cast, but I found it too gloomy and sad (especially Jack Lemmon's character).
