I often fantasize about selectively having my own memory erased - loved this movie

From a technical standpoint this film is very innovative, but I can't help but feel it's all done in such a way that could have been more effective if it was more simplistic. It's not boring to watch and there certainly are moments of intrigue but I have a hard time getting over films nowadays that are driven so much by fluff and "quirk." Kaufman's cynicism bleeds through which I generally have fun with, but in the end I can't help but feel the experiment (though nobly attempted) only succeeds in complicating complexity even further instead of showing it for what it is. I get it, but I guess I just find it alienating.
I've watched this film at least four times now, and call me slow, but I've only really worked out what is going on, and it's very clever, I won't spoil it, but this film is amazing. This is one of those films that does not progress through the story in order, and like a puzzle you have to piece it together, this can take time, but once you work it all out, it makes for an very interesting piece of work. Jim Carey plays his role very well, and maybe should be a more serious actor more often, Kate Winslet is not quite as good, but is strong throughout. I love the simplicity of the sets, and I love the cinematography, with everything being shot by a steady camera. I recommended this film highly, just make sure you concentrate and probably best if you don't drink anything alcoholic.
This is one of those movies I find really hard to categorize into a genre. I think calling it a romantic comedy would be putting it in rather simple terms. I think calling it a romantic comedy would be putting it in rather simple terms. I think it's rather ambiguous in that sense. At the core I suppose it's just a "don't know what you got til it's gone" lesson, but it's so well-done.

The script is highly original and inventive and really keeps you on your toes. Jim Carrey excellently underplays the role of Joel and Kate Winslet does a very good job of capturing Clementine's confusion and kookiness. The supporting cast is very strong and Michel Gondry was a perfect choice of director for such material. It's just a brilliantly told love story.

It combines the three ingredients necessary for a great film: a visionary director, a tale about love and Jim Carrey.
It's worth not blinking for the whole hour and forty-eight minutes.
Oh, and I own it on DVD so I WILL suggest you see it and insist you borrow my copy.

El film goza de una estética impecable muy onÃrica, magistralmente dirigido y con actuaciones deslumbrantes, en especial Jim Carrey que desmuestra lo gran actor que es cuando hace buenas pelis.
One of Jim Carrey's best movies. Not your typical "Hollywood" film, its dark and twisted at times but has great messages about love and our life time of memories.

A unique deconstruction of man's innate desire to avert heartache.full review
The disappointment I felt at the end of Eternal Sunshine was almost crushing, simply because there were sections of it that were as daring in their emotional directness as anything I've seen in years.full review
This is the best movie I've seen in a decade. For once it's no hyperbole to say, 'Unforgettable!'full review
It's a scruffy, blurry puzzle to put together, and well worth the effort -- just be sure to clear a tabletop for it in your mind.full review
Despite jumping through the deliberately disorienting hoops of its story, Eternal Sunshine has an emotional center, and that's what makes it work.full review
A poignant story set in a clever plot amidst exceptional performances.full review
Do you feel clever, punk? Well, do you? Because that's the only way to get your head around the latest Charlie Kaufman flick.full review
A remarkable film that can coax a smile about making the same mistakes in love and then sneak up and quietly break your heart.full review
