However, Bond is up against an enemy who anticipates his every move: Alec Trevelyan, a.k.a. Agent 006, a mastermind motivated by years of simmering hatred. As Bond squares off against his former compatriot, he also battles Trevelyan's stunning ally, Xenia Onatopp, an assassin who uses pleasure as her ultimate weapon. When the horrifying extent of Trevelyan's plans is revealed, Bond must call upon his sharp wits and killer instincts in a deadly confrontation. From a destructive tank chase through the streets of St. Petersburg to the treacherous Cuban jungle, Bond finds himself playing a cat-and-mouse game to the finish.

Not counting the new reboot films, i think this was one of my, if not my favourite bond film. It had twist, it had explosions, and it had drama unlike a lot of the 70s to 80s bond.

Eric Serra's exotic score complements the tragic state of 007, who finds himself irrelevant in a changing landscape. While Pierce's debut still has the usual refinements (its intriguing villains, great dialogue, wit & intensive action), Goldeneye is a darker, more psychological aware bond film provides insightful characterization of Bond's psyche.

It's definitely got a little bit of style to it, yet there is some substance to be had here, with solid performances. The highlight comes from Famke Janssen, who plays one of the best Bond Girls ever.
I saw this at a drive-in theater when I was 6. I remember thinking it was cool as hell. Upon recent viewing, it is just "alright".
Brosnanin eka ja paras bondi, sean bean leffasarjalle poikkeuksellisen hyva ja karismaattinen pahis, agenttien valinen loppumatto ok, taas joku ihmeen avaruustykki, mutta menkoon taman kerran, kohtalaisen rumia pienoismallikohtauksia ja kakkaa kamera... A great start for Pierce Brosnan's debut as 007. The sexiest and deadliest Bond girl in this film would be Xenia Onatopp (portrayed by X-Men's Famke Janssen). A great Bond film (next to The World is Not Enough)!
Up until Casino Royale, this was the best Bond flick ever. In retrospect, Brosnan wasn't rugged enough for Bond- he still does nicely in this one though
Critic Reviews
Watching the film, I got caught up in the special effects and the neat stunts, and I observed with a certain satisfaction Bond's belated entry into a more modern world.full review
