Quite good actually. Will Smith was born to play his role in this movie. This has comedy, sports and drama at the same time. I like it. :)
Entertaining at times, but mostly predictable and trite. The plot is far-fetched, holey and filled with platitudes.

Fairly good acting by Matt Damon and Charlize Theron. Will Smith overdoes the home-spun advice witticisms and his character, that of Bagger Vance, becomes irritating.
Directed by Robert Redford. He is capable of much better efforts, as "Quiz Show" and "A River Runs Through It" demonstrated.
It was like "Happy Gilmore," the super serious, over dramatic, and terrible version, with Will Smith as Happy and Matt Damon as Shooter McGavin or something.
One of Robert Redford's most impressing directorial films. Matt Damon and Will Smith are great aswell.

I noticed it was a movie over 2 hours and completely forgot about that aspect while viewing. My hat's off to Will Smith, he was the breath of fresh air that really drove the film. I mean, the story is centered around his character.
I was impressed by the choice of films Smith was choosing around this time, in particular Ali and this one. His accent in both films shows his dedication and commitment to really making his characters come alive. Although this was the time that he made the biggest regret of his career that I agree, The Matrix.
Perhaps the jeapordy could've have been a little deeper and differently. Or the stakes could've been raised a little more and other than Matt Damon trying to get his golf swing back. I did predict what was going on rather early but I'm sure that was the intent from the filmmakers. Maybe not so soon?
Maybe elaborate more on the relationship between he and Charlize's character. The filmmakers seem to not give you as much of it as you would like in the beginning to make you want more. Which is good, however, I don't think it paid off in the end. There was room for improvement when touching on this area.
Just ideas to toss around, but still a really good movie all around. As a filmmaker you should always ask yourself, "How can I make it better?" Whether it's this one or the next.
All in all, I recommend it for anyone looking for a good heart warming film to feel good afterwards.
some decent acting, but the story makes no sense
also, Matt Damon has the absolute worst golf swing ever used by an actor
Critic Reviews
Supernatural is not much better than subhuman: Hollywood is still, in the year 2000, disinclined to let black actors play human beings.full review
It handles a sports movie the way Billie Holiday handled a trashy song, by finding the love and pain beneath the story.full review
Most of the racial issues inherent in the setup of Bagger Vance are so painstakingly submerged that they barely register.full review
A knuckleheaded period piece anachronistically strewn with New Age platitudes.
