Indeed, every comic actor and most of the leading action stars in Hong Kong in 1983 seem to have been squeezed into this amiable kung fu comedy--there are even tiny cameo appearances by several famous movie directors (Ann Hui, Tsui Hark, Wu Ma). This picture marks the debut of a loose-knit group of farce-action stalwarts, the Five Lucky Stars, stumble-bum reformed crooks who attempt to go straight by setting up a cleaning service, but can't seem to help getting into tons of trouble. The Stars went on to appear in several sequels, including My Lucky Stars. Jackie Chan, as a cop pursuing the hapless crooks, is essentially the straight man here, and he seems to be using a stunt double in some of his big scenes. This is a close as Chan ever got to phoning in a performance. --David Chute

Tämä oli oikeastaan aika hauska, vaikka onkin ihan hömppä. Richard Ng näkymättömänä on niin mainio. Ikävä sanoa, mutta Jackien rooli oli aika turha.
Sammo's character here is a kind of an ideal man for me. He presents a totally new style of action hero, and it fits me. Other four guys than Sammo are well-established, and the film never gets you bored. Terrific!

aika hauska ja absurdi, näytteleminen vaan jossain välissä aika kökköä tavaraa :D

Great action, and some hilarious sequences. For an overweight guy, Sammo Hung is VERY agile (and quick) in his fight scenes. One great scene with Sammo and Jackie inside a diner, which also involves a midget and his henchman trying to rob the place and some incredible action. Gets a bit silly towards the end, and is probably about 15 mins too long, but all in all an enjoyable film.

(read more) Having already seen this movie's successor/sequel (My Lucky Stars), so to speak, numerous times, I was very interested in checking this movie out for some time. This movie is, like its successor, very goofy, but creative in its goofiness, and reasonably high in energy flow. The jokes also work more often than not, as this is what I like to refer to as a 'Sequential Comedy' - that is, the jokes come in waves, as each scene is largely just someone or some people trying to do something, often times creative and unique, and how the situation/gag develops.
To cut to the chase, this is a very funny movie, and I was actually surprised that this movie felt like it was on a larger scale than its successor. One thing I really enjoyed was that, while Sammo Hung's character was the only fighter in the group, the others were able to hold their own, to an extent, in the fight sequences (which are rare, but excellent). It was also surprisingly easy to follow, and the characters were quite easy to enjoy, largely because of the well-timed and almost innocent performances by the actors.
The best parts are at the start, where we see the characters before they go to jail, and the schemes that they pull; they're borderline brilliant some of them. Just note that Jackie Chan is only in about 10 minutes of this movie - disappointing for his fans, although luckily the rest of the movie works just fine.
Has some nice car chases, but most of the film does not feature Jackie Chan, so Chan fans will be disappointed, as I was.
Goofy, if overlong fun with some energetic stunts, but it doesn't take flight (and break its legs) quite as much as I'd hoped. Still, Jackie Chan rollerskates beneath a semi-trailer on the freeway (which "Gleaming the Cube" totally ripped off later), Sammo kicks butt and Hung falls down and it all happens to a gloriously overdubbed soundtrack. Entertaining if it's your cup of tea, intolerable if not. You know which type you are.
one of the funniest films i have ever seen, forget jackie chan , sammo is the star!
Excellent film starring Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung... some really funny parts and good action, classic 80s flick.
Comedie d'action a l'humour gentillet mais cocasse, dans laquelle Jackie Chan a un role secondaire plutot anecdotique.
