Good cast who perform well, but are limited by an average script. It's a good way to pass the time, but I'm unlikely to seek this movie out again to watch it... Even though the Nelson musical was written by Stephen Fry!
Funny, sad, slightly predictable, but with a great cast and just enough skew to set it apart. Stephen Fry did the bits of the musical... need I say more? I watch it just to hear James sing!
Before Prison Break was a Fox TV Series, Film Four made a slightly camp low budget musical rom com version.
Its not hilarious funny, but it has a brilliant plot. A nice mix of romance, comedy and even pathos. Eventhough its kind of short, everything unfolds and ties up nicely in the end. A must watch and don't miss out on the last song 'Sunny' at the end!
I absolutely adore Bill Nighy, I've never seen anything with him that wasn't great!

So when I got invited to the screening of this film, I must confess I went along with less than an open mind. However I really wasn?t prepared for just quite how bad this film was going to be.
After 15 minutes I was ready to walk. The script, acting and plot was straight out of an amature dramatics group. And what on earth must Peter Cattaneo have had on Christopher Plumber to get him to appear in this s*&%!?!
I urge you not to see this film and I also suggest that you tell all your friends, family and perfect strangers not to touch it with a barge pole.
Oh and Peter Cattaneo, if you ever happen to read this review, can I just say?please stop!
This movie is SADLY misrepresented by its cover. Its cover relegates it to the level of Airplane and other ridiculous 80's movies, while in fact it is a richly entertaining romantic comedy.
Critic Reviews
A pleasing but routine British comedy set in an English prison.full review
The movie has a raffish charm and good-hearted characters, and like The Full Monty it makes good use of the desperation beneath the comedy.full review
Lucky Break is perfectly inoffensive and harmless, but it's also drab and inert.full review
