Film about four recent college graduates who struggle through life, love, jobs and finding their place in the world. I recommended this to people in my age bracket who can absolutely relate. On a side note, I was hoping that Ben Stiller would play a more prominent role in the movie.

*Note: Giovani, carini e disoccupati - Young fine and unemployed - was the title for the Italian version.

It has the attractive and likable Winona Ryder as its main character, nice (if underused) performances from Steve Zahn, Janeane Garofalo and Ben Stiller, and some fun cameos from the likes of John Mahoney and David Spade and it has some excellent music. Still, the story feels forced into a happy ending and Hawke's character is only slightly more likable and a believable romantic interest than Jack Nicholson's insufferable ass-hole Melvin from As Good AS It Gets. It's like the film's message is that if two people reeeeeally love each other it's okay for one of them to treat the other like shit every once in a while.
When I was in high school I was seeeing it with my best friends at least once a month :) Mainly to see Ethan Hawke reading Heidegger's "Being and time"

Although it never became the definitive document of Generation X, Reality Bites is a touchstone for anyone just out of college and stuck with more ideals than job prospects, not to mention a head full of bad-TV trivia.full review
What unwritten law prevented the makers of Reality Bites from observing that their heroine can't shoot video worth a damn, that their hero is a jerk, and that their villain is the most interesting person in the movie?full review
