Still Breathing (1998)

Plot Synopsis: After a limited theatrical release in 1998, Still Breathing gained a small but loyal following on cable TV as the kind of movie that die-hard r... (read more)

Having seen Roz in a vision as the love of his life, Fletcher is drawn to L.A., where Roz--targeting Fletcher as her latest mark in an art-dealer scam--is as cynically damaged as Fletcher is spiritually grounded. He's the cure for what ails her, and their awkward return to San Antonio (a lovely, sunlit location) reveals that Roz is initially too cold to fall for Fletcher's charms. As she comes to life--a process that Going expresses with convincing subtlety--Still Breathing achieves a quality of quiet warmth and grace. An overlooked gem with abundant charm and sex appeal, the movie's also blessed by an easygoing supporting cast including Ann Magnuson, Angus MacFadyen, and Hollywood veteran Celeste Holm as Fletcher's equally good-natured grandmother. --Jeff Shannon

Great story and I loved Brendan but I really did not enjoy the main actress - Joanna Going. But still a cute quirky romantic film.

Probably my favorite "rom com" - offbeat & wise & sexy & slow (in a good way!). It's not everyone's cup of tea, but I love the way it shows what unconditional love looks like.

Ugh. Talk about cheesy romances. I still can't figure out why I sat through it. I kept hoping it would end in suicide and hopelessness, but I guess it's too optimistic a film to be that kind. As it is you're just forced to watch two really attractive... (read more)

I picked this up at the rental store on a whim a few years ago, and it has become one of my favorite films. Brendan Frasier's sweet eccentric character is appealing. I use "quirky" a lot in reviews, but I think that speaks more to my taste in films... (read more)
