(read more) This echo of 1970s disaster films stars Sylvester Stallone as the disgraced former head of New York City's Emergency Medical Services, a loser who is nevertheless a compulsive rescuer of people in danger. When the Holland Tunnel is sealed off after a fiery explosion and car passengers are trapped within, he goes inside and leads a group of survivors (a mixed group allegorically representing America's diversity) through all manner of pestilence toward safety. Directed by the imaginative Rob Cohen (Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story), Daylight finds Stallone outrageously (and to almost campy effect) pushing the envelope of his martyr persona to near-religious levels. He throws himself, quite literally, into this part, and between that entertainment factor and the unnervingly convincing effects, this is a pretty watchable film. The collector's edition DVD release has optional widescreen and standard (pan and scan) versions, optional Spanish subtitles, and Dolby soundtrack. --Tom Keogh

As far as Sylvester Stallone movies go, this is actually one of the better ones. In short, its big, dumb and fun. Check your brain at the door because this ain't Shakespeare, its mindless fun for about two hours.
Really crazy movie.Sylvester Stallone's character was good in this movie.
This is a great movie, good cast and action sequences. This was still a movie where u can fully understand what stallone is talking about..
The dialogue is enjoyably cheesy and the action sequences are pretty good.
If they rewrote the script and replaced 90% of the cast this movie would almost be ok.
Popcorn cinema, yes. Pretty stupid story, made for super heroes and too foreseeable.
Harmless but awful. It was at the peak of 90s disaster movies, and just like 99.99999999% of the 90s disaster movies, it stunk it up. I mean, how can you do entire movie that takes place in a tunnel?
Stallone is a great actor. He's a great action actor and this is one of his best action movies.
