After his release, Jake becomes unbeatable at the tables using a formula for the ultimate con that he learned from two mysterious prisoners while on the inside. Now, he is ready to take his revenge against Dorothy Macha, the man responsible for his jail time. Macha is plotting to eliminate his ruthless rival, Lord John, and has staked his credibility on a huge drug deal with the all-powerful Sam Gold. Jake visits Macha at his casino and humiliates him publicly in a game of chance. Macha, fearing more of the same medicine, sends his goons to "take care of" Jake. His life is saved by enigmatic Zack who, with his equally inscrutable partner Avi, offer Jake protection. Against his better judgment, Jake accepts. He soon finds himself playing the very last game he wants to be playing, and there is danger at every turn. But, the biggest danger of all comes from a totally unexpected source--himself. It gradually transpires the real conman is in his head.

of all the Guy Ritchie films, I like this one the best. I think apart from Fight Club, I don't know of another movie that will go after the post-modern existential angst and internal conflict that plague 'modern' life.

Andre was clever and stylish as usual and Ray Liotta was great. But the stand out for me was Mark Strong. I have found a new favourite, he is awesome! And the credits finished it off so well. Almost to clever for it's own good!! Guy Ritchie and Luc Besson together though, wouldn't expect any less!

The movie tries to be intellectual and smart with all mumbo jumbo nonsence about ego, but this only makes it hard to follow the damn movie. And the outcome of the movie is still easy to predict even though it tries hard not to show every card it has in it's hand. Like every Guy Ritchie movie this one also has cool scenes which are neatly edited and shot.
Stylistically scattered at times, but stays classy with its bada** violence for a rich story that pays off its confusing setup.
And might I add.... some of the best-filmed chess playing I've ever seen. lol
This movie started epic, didn't end quite as good. I'm gonna have to watch it again because it gets really confusing.

I like Luc Besson as a Director and I'm guessing most everything good about this movie came from his involvement. As for entertainment value, there's a few interesting action scenes and some witty lines, but half way through I started wondering how soon this movie would end.
an intellectual crime film? interesting. it's different. i give it that. i did enjoy the metaphysical commentary during the ending credits.
Well done. The revelation isn't as revelatory as I believe the director intends it to be though.
Critic Reviews
Guy Ritchie's greasy little noir Revolver is good grindhouse fun until a last act that's like a meeting of a psychoanalysts' convention.full review
A frothing mad film that thrashes against its very sprocket holes in an attempt to bash its brains out against the projector. It seems designed to punish the audience for buying tickets.full review
A psychological thriller that focuses more on the 'psycho' than the 'logical' for its own good. But who says everything has to make sense when you're just trying to blow a few brains out?full review
There are quotations from Machiavelli, brainiac chess stratagems, meditations on the ego and suicide, and some of the clunkiest gangland gab this side of a Martin Scorsese parody.full review
While it's unclear if this nonsense is propaganda for Madonna's Kabbalah dogma, there's absolutely no doubt that Revolver achieves a higher plane of badness.full review
