Set in the prairie country above Minnesota in 1942, For the Moment's wartime romance stars Crowe as Lachlan, a rakish Australian pilot signed on to the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan, which trains fliers for combat duty. With an average life expectancy of the program's graduates no more than six weeks, Lachlan wastes no time wooing the attractive and lonely Lill (Christianne Hirt), wife of a farmer-turned-soldier serving overseas. The two fall in love, and their touching if secretive affair serves as a counterpoint to a more public, and tender, romance between the town's prostitute and Lachlan's commanding officer. Writer-director Aaron Kim Johnston eschews bathos for a graceful, even stately, tone to his tale of loneliness and loss. The staggeringly charming, dashing Crowe, however, makes For the Moment compelling. --Tom Keogh

A disappointing romance, partly due to the lack of pace, but also the lack of real interest in the love affairs.

Not the type of behaviour the average individual would find acceptable, but I think during war, people tend to reach out to one another rather than adhere to strict moral code. It tends to point out how lucky and truly spoiled we all are to be able to judge the characters in this movie. Definitely worth watching.
Overall For the Moment succeeds at what it wants to be: a weepy love story. It's not an epic by any means, but it is pleasant, which isn't such a bad thing. Early Northern Hemisphere role for Crowe.
you have to love this movie. the story may not be great...but Crowe was never more PERFECT ever....
:O...
An understated, timeless movie about love in war. Set in Manitoba and starring toned down, sincere performers, including a knockout performance from Russell Crowe and considerable impact from Christianne Hirt. The message of the movie rings true.
