Brilliant film. I loved Peter Sellers in this. I'm not a huge fan of slapstick comedy but he was able to incorporate it into a believable and likeable character, and I enjoyed the film more and more as it went on.

An excellent classic...Sanders proves to be the convincing, bumbling fool we know as Clouseau. Quite entertaining and an all around good movie to watch, even 44 years later.

Most of the physical jokes didn't work for me but the scenes with Clouseau and Hercule were great. I also loved the scenes with Dreyfus. In fact, he has my favourite line in the whole movie. Just the way he delivered the words "I hate you, Clouseau" with so much sincerity and desperation was hilarious. Elke Sommer and her awesome cleavage also helped put a smile on my face. The thing that really got to me, however, was Clouseau and Maria's date sequence. There were fewer jokes in those scenes and the way Peter Sellers plays it convinced me that if this had been more focused on the mystery and romance aspects with a few comedic bits thrown in, I'd have enjoyed it a lot more. I totally bought his whole relationship with Maria and it pissed me off that they ruined a perfectly good romantic moment by having Kato fuck his shit up. Still, it's a decent flick and I got a few laughs out of it. I just wish Clouseau got to bang Maria.

Peter Sellers at his best, absolutely committed to deadpan clumsy stupid, , and Herbert Lom as well (he's just twitchy enough, whereas in later Panther movies - awful - he's over-the -top with it). Better than the Pink Panther, and more absurd.
