Inside the train Charles Bronson delivers a classic performance from behind a big moustache as a mysterious prisoner with unknown motives, facing off against a series of treacherous villains as the train trundles away from civilisation, the body count mounts and the plot generally thickens. Among the villians, only Western stalwart Ben Johnson is below par, delivering a duller performance than usual that simply feels as if his heart isn't in it. Otherwise this is an enjoyably nostalgic thriller that will always be worth a watch.
They don't really make adventure movies like this anymore. Bronson as a 1800's secret service agent uncovering activities Uncle Sam would not approve of. Lauter and Bronson would later team up in the excellent Death Wish 3.

Not my favorite Bronson movie, but it's got a great cast of 70s character actors you can't beat. Good action, but the mystery aspects of the story were not all that interesting.
good murder mystery film with a cunning Charles Bronson playing a convict on a train that continues to loose passengers in a deadly way.
the setup for this movie is awesome. the music is good. but it really just meanders along, it deserved a better director.

However, although the twists, hints and teases are there, it still feels a bit unfulfilled. One problem is that Bronson really does not add any depth to his character and that the director has a perhaps too straight-forward approach thus making it a bit less intriguing and smart than it could be as well as leaving the characters uninteresting. Ed Lauter shines in an otherwise unremarkable cast. A decent thriller, and better than most the shite that is made these days.
This is a very intriguing film. With some twists and mystery. Bronson is cool as cool can be, but most of the supportings hold their own weight. To be corny, this film is just a fun effing train ride. With an incredible theme song by Jerry Goldsmith... (read more) This is a very intriguing film. With some twists and mystery. Entretenida.
I've been in the mood for 70s flix lately- I'd never seen this one before and thought I'd give it a shot. Great movie and a really good story. Fun acting by Bronson and the cast, beautiful photography of the west and the railroad, too.
A pretty good Who-Done-It starring none other then the man himself. Charles Bronson. All around good cast, and an awesome theme music from Jerry Goldsmith.
