From what I saw it was pretty good. A bit on the biased side, but that's Hollywood for ya.
the most amazing scene in the movie is when tom hanks is listening maria callas!

(read more) Hollywood's first mainstream film about AIDS is moving, powerful and touching, well acted by Hanks and Washington as two lawyers fighting to overcome the system of prejudice and fear of the fatal illness. The courtroom scenes are very well written, with Denzel Washington getting some great ammo with the one-liners. Although Tom Hanks is very good, cast in a dramatic role during a time when he was known only for comedy performances, the awarding of a Best Actor Oscar should have gone to either Liam Neeson for Schindler's List or Daniel Day-Lewis for In The Name Of The Father. Nevertheless, Philadelphia is an important film to educate those ignorant to people with homophobic prejudice or little knowledge of HIV and AIDS-related illnesses.
Standard courtroom drama but it's powerful subject and Tom Hank's brilliant performance make it a worthwhile watch.
Tom Hank's best performance. Denzel Washington definitely got robbed for an Oscar nod. This is definitely one of a kind.
Intriguing movie, but way too slow... Well done both Hanks and Washington...

Philadelphia breaks no new dramatic ground ... And yet Philadelphia is quite a good film, on its own terms.full review
