An eccentric London inventor, Phileas Fogg, has come up with the secrets to flight, electricity, and even roller-blades, but the world has dismissed him as a crackpot. Desperate to be taken seriously, Fogg makes an outlandish bet with Lord Kelvin, the head of the Royal Academy of Science: to circumnavigate the globe in no more than 80 days! With his two sidekicks--Passé partout and femme fatale Monique--Fogg is headed on a frantic, heart-pounding round-the-world race that takes our heroes to the world's most exotic places by land, sea, and air. Along the way, our heroes face many adventures and obstacles from an all-star cast that land them in comedic predicaments, and exhilarating action.

Its a retro couple of hours with Chan supplying the slapstick-fu and Broadbent twirling his villainous moustache to almost audible boos. Coogan's stint as an old skool inventor further consolidates its vaudevillian tendencies without pushing it into whimsy or farce although the dialogue could have been a bit perkier and the trip itself 10 days shorter.

Around the World in 80 Days is never as delightful and silly as it needs to be.full review
An energetic and enormously good-natured family movie.full review
The major problem with Around the World is that there's just not quite enough Chan, or at least the Chan we want to see, which is the acrobatic clown.full review
It's light as a fly, but springs some genuinely funny moments.full review
A peppy, fast-moving, wafer-thin amusement that's fine for kids if you don't mind a lot of Three Stooges-style martial arts. For grown-ups, it's the equivalent of a 59-cent tin globe.full review
