There's an anemic plot involving two warring skateboarding gangs and a boy who falls in love with the sister of a rival gang member. It's a goofy "Romeo and Juliet" on wheels, where none of the kids have parents and most of life's mysteries are answered with a good musical montage. Thrashin' is really just a term for 'extreme skateboarding'. If you're not into it, then don't watch the movie, because there's nothing else in this stinker worth diving for. Not even Josh Brolin. Brolin is a good actor today (he's even got an Oscar nomination under his belt), but in "Thrashin'" he's got the charisma and personality of a petrified turd.

Not to mention you have some odd 'authentic' touches, including a character wearing a SST records T-shirt and the inclusion of actual skateboarders as stunt people or other competitors. Mix in some wonderfully over the top dialog and you've created something special.
interesting movie.... well the best part is seeing The Red Hot Chili Peppers at a very young age.
An under-appreciated commentary on struggle of rival skate gangs in the 80's with musical cameo by Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Similar to "No Country for Old Men", this movie stars Josh Brolin and explores themes of chance/fate/obstacles in life. The primary difference between the two movies being that Thrashin' was set in L.A. with Josh cast as a skate hunk, whereas in Thrashin's remake (No Country for Old Men) he was cast as a vietnam veteran in Texas.
The scene where the rival skate gang leader is air guitaring while his cronies stare in awe pretty much sums this one up.
West Side Story on skateboards. Interesting only to those who like either West Side Story or skateboarding.
OK film, but I'm rating it on nostalgia and awesome old school skateboarding footage.
This is a hilarious and awesome quintessential 80s film. This will become required viewing in all American history classes. Mark my words.

One of the great films of our time. Chrissy was hot, but what the heck was she doing wearing a prom dress to the thrashin' party?
