An eccentric and dogmatic inventor sells his house and takes his family to Central America to build an ice factory in the middle of the jungle. Conflicts with his family, a local preacher and with nature are only small obstacles to his obsession. Based upon a Paul Theroux novel.

so depressing! very, very depressing. but well made and great acting.
Very good movie.. when an idea or project goes to far, it takes a person far from reality. This movie is beautifully created to show the difference between determination vs stubborn intention, and the effects of it all.
I enjoyed the hell out of it. Like Aguirre: The Wrath of God, but with Harrison Ford as Klaus Kinski. I like Helen Mirren's boobs.
A fantastic and underappreciated gem in Ford's long list of great films.One of his finest performances and one the only chances he has had to show his range as an actor. Also great is the late River Phoenix and the always dependable Mirren.
