(read more) Al (Freddie Prinze Jr., from She's All That and I Know What You Did Last Summer) and Imogen (Julia Stiles from 10 Things I Hate About You) take turns narrating the story of their college romance. Al has a celebrity chef for a father (an amusing turn from Henry Winkler) and a rising porn star for a best friend (Zak Orth). The dialogue is stale, the story flounders, and the movie can't seem to decide whether it wants to be a sweet romance or a social satire. Down to You keeps dropping into odd fantasy bits that have nothing to do with, well, much of anything. But all the stars--including Selma Blair (Cruel Intentions) and Shawn Hatosy (Outside Providence) are pleasant and well groomed (well, except for Hatosy, who bears the brunt of being the poster boy for every fad of the '90s), and the soundtrack (featuring Cibo Matto, early David Bowie, Yo La Tengo, and others) is excellent. --Bret Fetzer

I can not stand Julia Stiles or anything that she has anything to do with!
Ok romantic comedy good cast but the movie is less than the sum of its parts

Generally speaking, rom-coms aren't great movies (Emma and Clueless are exceptions to this rule). There have been some good ones and most are mediocre yet watchable; but this one ... not so much. Hell would be more enjoyable. I would say this film is on par with most of Freddie Prinze Jr.'s other movies (how sad is it when a bright spot on a resume is a Scooby-Doo movie?) but I find it shocking that an actress with such promise like Julia Stiles would find herself in such a horrid picture (please, Julia, make more Shakespeare and Bourne films!). The dialogue in this movie is actually cringe-inducing and it was a labor to sit through. Awful, stupid, uninspiring, daft, put-upon, ridiculous, laughable (in a bad way) and inane. It is usually pretty easy to pin-point the worst part of a film; but when a film is ALL bad it is impossible to do so. This is seriously a torturous movie and all copies of it should burned so that nobody should ever have to suffer through it again -- this could be a new American torture technique. Watch it at your own peril.
sweet and the billie myers song just added it cool points...barry white rules!

The thing that I like about Julia is,that she portrays the psyche of girls so wonderfully .One moment she can be this lovely girl that you wanna spend your life with and the other a person who gets upset every now and then.
She's true representation of what I like to say "Girls are complicated"

Belongs to that other kind of American teen comedy... movies of crushes and wagers and sex jokes, with patchwork plots and a standby army of eccentric comic sidekicks.full review
Flees from anything that might involve real human emotion, or for that matter any credible human activity other than looking good.full review
