A car chase ensues, resulting in Samantha's family's diner getting blown up, which in turn lands the boys in hot water with the law. The upshot is the snotty rich kid is sentenced to help the locals rebuild the diner. A romance develops between Kelley and Samantha, apparently because they like a particular Robert Frost poem. So now they're deep, see. But then their love is tested when Samantha contracts Ali MacGraw disease. You know, that's the sudden disease Ali McGraw gets in Love Story--really an excuse to emphasize the strength of the characters' love. You don't know what you got till it's gone, right? This film would be pretty bad if the performances weren't so engaging, especially LeeLee Sobieski's, who seems to be channeling Helen Hunt in this movie. Though Chris Klein never makes us believe for an instant that his arrogant character could make the changes he does, or that his and Sobieski's characters could ever really get together. The script is too thin to support any motivations, and the film falls into formula weepy territory to appeal to teen tear ducts. Lovers of weepies might overlook the film's plot weaknesses in favor of the strong performances and the prospect of a good cry. --Jim Gay

I cant stand Chris Klein but I do love Josh Hartnett ah such a hottie

First you got two guys fighting over a girl, then a love story, then finally it tries to turn into a sad story in the end. While that may seem all fine and dandy, it ends up not working for me because I did not like the love story. You got the girl who cheats on her boyfriend (Josh Hartnett) with a rich boy (Chris Klein), who isn't very likable, and then we are supposed to be happy for them? I felt sorry for Hartnett's character if anything. He really loves this girl (they've known each other since they were kids) and she cheats and leaves him for someone she barely knows? What the hell? lol Anyways the movie tries to make the audience feel emotional towards the end, but it didn't work for me. While nothing bad, and I'd still say it's worth a watch as it's really up to you on whether you'll like this or not, it's nothing to go out of your way to see.
What?! I was rooting for Josh Harnett throughout the entire film! I loved the story though, and I could feel the chemistry. I could watch this movie over and over again.
This movie was ok, kind of cheesy. I'm not really a fan of Josh Hartnett and Leelee Sobieski is one of the worst I have ever seen!

Simply put a spoiled rich kid gets in a race with his this poor farm boy, the aftermath of which sees the town's local diner destroyed and the two boys facing jail time until they are forced to work together to rebuild the diner. Enter the farm boy's girlfriend who has eyes for the rich kid, who slowly opens up to the girl and they quickly become lovers, which cause a stir in the community, and after it is all said and done and the two boys become friends, somewhat. We find out the girl is very sick, what happens next? Well your either gonna have to watch the film for yourself, or read the first sentence of the review and figure it out on your own.

Secondly, Chris Klein is incapable of playing an asshole, so the picture was doomed from there, but to top it off, neither Klein nor Sobieski seem able to emote, except maybe sexual desire-- that bit with him kissing her foot and her leg and then refraining from kissing her boob, that was nice, but the rest-- crap.
