By all accounts, Jack Sommersby was not a pleasant man, thus when he returns, Laurel has mixed emotions. It appears that Jack has changed a great deal, leading some people to believe that this is not actually Jack but an imposter. Laurel herself is unsure, but willing to take the man into her home, and perhaps later into her heart...

(read more) Sommersby was the story of a man named Jack Sommersby, played by Richard Gere, a changed man who returned to his hometown after 6 years held prisoner in the Civil War.You will like and dislike his character, first like because he was nice to the slaves, good for his wife(Jody Foster) and dislike cause of who he was before. Now changed, you could understand why he lied, but it was hard to understand why he pretended to be someone he was not. In the end he made the right choice that allows the slaves to keep their land. This movie made you think about right & wrong.
Richard Gere and Jodie Foster no i don't think so the story is not good enough, the characters aren't descriptive enough and the rest of it hardly sinks into our hearts
La tengo sólo en VHS,y la và años ha,en el cine de verano de Arroyo de la Miel..me encantó,muy muy tierna...ay omá...
i'm not fan of richard gere but in this romantic story he plays very well.jodie foster doesn't give the best.you can see this movie for fun
A trivial story with 2 renown celebrities. A good reminiscence of the ancient way of planting tobacco leaves, costumes and so on.
I saw some of this in my old history class and decided to watch the rest of it on VHS. But it turns out that this movie isn't really that great. Parts were entertaining, but overall it was kind of a boring movie.
