Her popularity with the British people is waning and there are calls to abolish the Monarchy. As a last resort Sir Henry Ponsonby, the Queen's Private Secretary, summons John Brown, her loyal Scottish Attendant, down from Balmoral to walk the Queen's pony. Brown's arrival at Court is the beginning of extraordinary relationship. Rumours of an affair begin to scandalize polite society and a crisis in the Monarchy seems inevitable.

One of my favourite films of all time. I love this film for all its aspects, but mainly for one of the best performances by an actress ever. I fell in love with Judi because of this film.

Palmer was so different from ATGB I almost didn't believe it was him. I love English history, esp monarchy stuff, and Victoria is one of my favourites. A

Yes, Judi Dench was amazing, as was Billy Connolly but I felt like something was missing. I think I would have liked to have seen a movie with less politics and more about her family. I know that's hard because we're talking about Queen Victoria but perhaps how a relationship with one of her daughters or grand-daughters was strained by her mourning. I don't know. . .

judi dench is basically jesus reincarnate. wonderful acting (OBVIOUSLY) by both dench and connolly. a bit slow, but its one of those movies you have to be in the right mood for.
Got it for Gerard, but he only has a miniscule role in it. *sigh*. Was good enough, sort of interesting, but not much to write home about.
I highly recommend it but only if you enjoy history. It is based on true events between Queen Victoria of Englad and and her manservant John Brown.
