Encouraging these women to strive for a more enlightened future, Watson challenges the administration and inspires her students to look beyond the image of what is, and consider the possibilities of what could be--contrary to popular belief.

i think julia haz done a fantastic job....she'z been m fav actress ever.....so cnt say more....juz luvd it!!!
Great cast and costumes; but not what I was expecting based on the trailers and the hype. Slow pace and not very inspiring.
I liked this for the most part...the customs of the time make you really think, and Julia Roberts performance is very good.I just thought the ending a tad weak from the interesting story line.
Loved it, loved it, loved it!!! :) Terrific acting, great story line, and very entertaining. As a teacher, I really appreciated it, but even if I wasn't, I would still have really enjoyed it. It's going on my Amazon wish list! :)
Holding off on this one based on the amount of girly "oawwww" noises my sister is making while watching it. Yeesh.
Critic Reviews
In terms of the gap between the movie it's trying to be and the movie it actually is, Mona Lisa Smile is in many ways indefensible. Yet for all its problems, it's satisfyingly movielike.full review
Rather than being a fascinating exploration of a much more constrained time in our social history, the film simply feels anachronistic.full review
There seems to be an odd idealization, or trivialization, of the characters that makes the movie ultimately unsatisfying.full review
It's hard to believe Katherine could become a beloved teacher or inspire her students, and in the case of Mona Lisa Smile that's the same as saying it's hard to believe the movie.full review
The characters involve us, we sympathize with their dreams and despair of their matrimonial tunnel vision, and at the end we are relieved that we listened to Miss Watson and became the wonderful people who we are today.full review
Roberts shows a new maturity in the role of a mentor to a flock of younger women.full review
