All style, no substance. Great visual effects, but boring story, badly told.
Dull performance from Warren Beatty in the lead role. Only positive is the over-the-top intense performance from Al Pacino, as the arch-villian Big Boy Caprice.
The music sounds a lot like the Batman soundtrack....but otherwise visually impressive and an excellent cast.
A fantastic visual style, with sets and costumes of primary colours captured handsomely by the photography for a real cutting edge comic book look. Most of the stars are virtually unrecognisable in brilliant makeup, especially Al Pacino, who is fantastic as Big Boy Caprice, but aside from those mentions of merit it's incredibly boring. Madonna's performance isn't helped, miscast as a gangster's moll who coos through Stephen Sondheim songs.

(read more) L'adaptation d'un Comic a l'ancienne, avec le heros unidimensionnel qui defend la justice avec un equipement de flic moyen, c'est une aventure qu'il me plairait de voir tentee une nouvelle fois aujourd'hui, ne serait-ce que pour la gageure que constitue le fait de rendre la chose interessante. En attendant, il est toujours possible de se replonger dans ce Dick Tracy haut-en-couleur, realise en 1990 par Warren Beaty. Avec son intrigue classique mais plaisante et son casting prestigieux, le film seduit avant tout par sa representation enthousiasmante d'une megalopole d'operette, debordante de neons colores, de bars de nuit et de bas-fonds envahis par la fumee des souffleries, ainsi que par sa galerie de mobsters grotesques, hysteriques et deformes. Si cette avalanche de couleurs agressives semble parfois too much, et si de grands acteurs comme Al Pacino rivalisent de pitreries pour imposer leurs personnages, Dick Tracy a le grand merite de ne pas veritablement se prendre au serieux. Tel etait sans doute le - maigre - prix a payer pour retrouver l'essence de ce Comic des annees 30.

The only movie with madonna that I'll watch. Also my favorite Warren Beatty flick that I've seen.
