Interesting antiwestern with highly improvised performance by unpredictable Brando.

Director Penn truly struggles for a tone, but the payoff is completely original and unique. Brando's performance divided many, but, from where I sit, it looks like a spot-on portrait of a psychopath. Nicholson underplays beautifully and the little-known Kathleen Lloyd plays the most refreshing and original female character I've ever seen in a Western.
Fantastisk film,Brando og Nickolson er outstanding her,for en historie.GODAMN
An offbeat western but extremely watchable, Nicholson and Brando both give great revisionary performances in the genre.
Less a Western than a look at how vengeance ruins your life, set in the West.
En francais, la traduction est nulle! Dommage, car j' ai eu du mal a me concentrer sur l' histoire tout le long de ce film. Marlon Brando a l' air d' avoir pris du bon " stock " !

Jack Nicholson is great, and Marlon Brando gives a classic performance. In fact, Brando sort of defines the entire film. His utter bizarreness and constantly calm state really brings to mind Heath Ledger's Joker, and I would bet anything that Ledger was hugely inspired by Brando here. All in all, it's Brando, Nicholson, and the general weirdness of this movie that make it so entertaining. It's slow at times, but essential viewing for the acting alone.
Brando and Nicholson are both great, but as a whole it's slow and unsure of what kind of film it wants to be. I wish they had fleshed out the Nicholson-Brando conflict more, it started and ended near the end and ended too quickly. Brando's Lee Clay... Brando's Lee Clayton is especially entertaining, I'm not sure if Brando even knew there were cameras shooting in a few of the scenes
marlon brando's character makes the whole movie worthwhile. very strange and in a way reminded me of the villain in "no country for old men."
Brando is amazing, Nicholson not far behind. Good gritty film without BS, that isn't tainted by the Hollywood disease
