Mel, you can't play Martin Riggs as Hamlet and expect me to take you seriously. Nor can you be THAT close to your mum. It's weird.

Despite being abridged, this is still a good version of Hamelet, and is a good start for anyone interested in Hamlet, but not yet willing to shell out to see it on stage ;)
moreso than their male counterparts, glenn close and helena bonham carter bring so much life to their characters. i felt more for their grief than anyone else's. as a whole, the movie was ok ~ adapting a shakespearean play to the screen isnt easy and... Hamlet... awesome. Mel Gibson... awesome. Mel Gibson AS Hamlet... meh.
I didn't make it through the movie because they were speaking in old English language and I hated that! (yes I know that's when it was written but I prefer remakes of this stuff)
Very condensed, sometimes overacted but overall durable and respectable mounting of the tragedy. Solid but unspectacular, like a decent local production.

For a good Hamlet film refer to the Kenneth Branaugh version. This one is garbage.

Rather taame interpretation, but what a job by the actors! Not exactly scholarly, but a really good movie.
