It starts out the main character Anne who is some what shy but a hard worker of her family (she does a lot of stuff that her other family members don't do) plus she listen to gossip a lot too. One day the guy she turn down to married him when she was 19 comes back from his journey 8 years later and to me the feelings for him never change in her heart. He sort of didn't know what to do either and there is another girl sort of goes after him too (you can tell he wasn't that interested the other girl at all). She sort of move on a bit too toward another man that her family does approve but she didn't know if she love him as much as the other guy. All in all it was a good movie but to me Jane other works has the chemistry of the two people that get together than this one I couldn't see the chemistry much in the two main characters that much.
most romantic movie ever. heart breaking depiction of an "older" unmarried woman whose one chance at love was forfeited to indecision and her unfortunate reliance on her friends' opinions.
Saw this on PBS in 1997, just after my boyfriend left me to go back to his hometown. Cried. Loved it. Saw myself in Anne.
Serviceable but slow-moving adaptation of Austen's most poignant, final work. Distinctly TV-movie in its approach, which deadens its pace.
ohh the letter did it for me. a man in agony for a lost long love, it's absolutely divine.

She remeets her past love, whom she was persuaded to break off her engagement from and the movie takes place from there. Good performances from the two leads and Amanda Root was perfectly cast as Anne. The movie is slower and was more difficult to follow the first time I saw it. After reading the novel the movie made much more sense to me and is done quite well.

I really liked the autumnal colours and the understated music as well. Excellent.
The Jane Austin classic, (referred to repeatedly in "The Lake House").
Worth curling up with, with a Hershey bar & a soft throw blanket, on a rainy Saturday night ...for the romantic at heart.
Beautifully portrayed, well cast.
Critic Reviews
Much of the movie's emotional work has to be done by...faces and eyes, while other people speak of other things, and to see that happening is frustrating, because it happens so slowly, and romantic, because it happens at all.full review
