I absolutely loved the rock voice of the Phantom and felt sorry for the guy, I felt his melancholy. Other than that I thought the movie was too long and boring.

Love the musical, not sure how the movie would be. Don't think any actor could possibly top Bob Guest, who was our Phantom of the Opera.
