Although he was born in India, Mr. Shyamalan was raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and often uses this setting as a back drop for his films. He is well known for employing a "twist ending" to his movies, as is the case most famously in "The Sixth Sense". At the young age of 8 Mr Shyamalan was given a super-8 camera and began his film making career. He admires Steven Spielberg and Hitchcock, and often cameos in his own movies.
