Girl v. Boy
Yvonne CollinsI thought this book was really good. It dealt with some of the problems teens face in life today. It is definately a story about a girl trying to find out what true love really is. She goes through heartbreaks but finally finds someone that's right for her. Then she finally understands some things about boys she never knew before. I thought this was really interesting to read because it was the girl's personal opinion about things. It is a newspaper columnist battle between a boy and a girl t... (show more)

I thought this was really interesting to read because it was the girl's personal opinion about things. It is a newspaper columnist battle between a boy and a girl that make it everything it is. But it isn't written at all like a journal or whatever. I hate those kind of books! I definately reccomend this to anyone who likes a REAL love story! (show less)

Brandon MullI love this series SO much!!! If you love fantasy and want a fun, quick read then this book is for you. I read fantasy a lot and of the books I've read this is one of the best. You just cannot go wrong! So anyways, it's about this brother and sister who discover that their grandparents are secretely caretaker's of a magical preserve. Basically most of the mythical creatures you here about (fairys, witches, centaurs, golems etc.) are in these books. Kendra and Seth have tons of adventures and ... (show more)

A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier
Ishmael BeahI've been reading this for 9th grade Honors English. Um...I'm not quite sure why they would choose this book for us to read, but they did. I really enjoy reading this but it's really graphic (almost every time ishmael sees someone get killed or sees someone dead he has to describe it in detail, GROSS!), and this is very very sad! I think this book definately should be read because it gives you a perspective on what's really happening in other countries like Sierra Leone. In this book you can ... (show more)

In this book you can get out of the little sheltered bubble you live in and really see what it's like for kids in other countries.
This book is just heartbreaking because you think about how this kid is your age( or the age you once were) and he's fighting in the army. Ishmael is a very accomplished writer and it really shows in this memoir. However, sometimes it can be a little to much to handle and take in. I just haven't realized how war was until i read this book. But CAUTION: you should know that this is a book about a boy's experience with war and how his country was torn apart from it. Basically, if you don't want to read about people dying a lot or you just don't like really sad books then this probably isn't for you. It shows you that you're so lucky to have what you have, and not to take things for granted. There's not one word that can be used to describe what ismael had to go through. This just shouldn't be going on, but the sad truth is....it's going on right now, and we should be aware of it. So open your eyes and read this! (show less)
