Reviews I've Written

  • The Mists of Avalon
    Marion Zimmer Bradley

I was introduced to this book at the age of 16 by my aunts who are true feminists. I fell in love with it from chapter one. This is a long book so be prepared but the journey is so worth it. The retelling of the Arthurian legend from the point of view of the women behind the Camelot throne is what drives this book.

  • Black and Blue
    Anna Quindlen

A moving story about a women trapped in domestic violence. The story shows that she stays with her abuser because she loves him and she wants her child to have a father despite the violence being done to her. She finally sees how her child is being effected by this and takes action. She is then faced with the violence that shaped her life as she is trying to build a new one. It has a sleeping with the enemy type storyline.

Adam Strickland is a young scholar from Cambridge sent to the house Villa Docci in Tuscany where he is to write a monograph about its famous memorial garden. Unbeknownst to Adam he is being used by one of the members of the Docci family and is really sent to Villa Docci to uncover two murders and reveal the families cursed past.
The garden is a mysterious world hiding a four hundred year old family secret. Through out the garden are statues and inscriptions. Through his research, Adam is able to connect the garden with what really happened hundreds of years ago, and flush out a more recent murderer.
This book is full of multiple mysteries, family intrigues, classic mythology, and Renaissance art.
The map of the garden in the front of the book is not worth the paper it is printed on, so use the internet to look up the renaissance art and the classic mythology referenced in this book.
A quick read, it is not the best murder mystery I have read but it is entertaining. (show less)
