Egads, what a horrid life the author went through. I simply cannot understand how people can be so uncaring and downright mean to their children. Why have them at all if you're not going to care for them? My heart went out to all the kids involved in this story and made me so, so grateful for the wonderful childhood I had, raised by loving, devoted parents. My heart went out to all the kids involved in this story and made me so, so grateful for the wonderful childhood I had, raised by loving, devoted parents. Monica writes very fluidly and pulls no punches. She seems to hide nothing -- from her bed-wetting as a child to her sex life, she shares completely with the reader. I think this exceptionally brave, especially from someone who was, very literally, exposed in public from a young age. This was a emotionally difficult at times, but still a book I'm glad I read.
