Reviews I've Written

  • Intrusions
    Ursula Hegi

I liked this. It was different -- a good look into what it's like to be a writer, especially one with children. The story-within-a-story (the novel being written) is only so-so, but reading about the writing process was interesting to me.

  • The Honk and Holler Opening Soon
    Billie Letts

Definitely a very enjoyable read. The characters are well fleshed out and individual -- no stock characters here -- and while the storyline holds no surprises, it doesn't disappoint. A smooth, easy read with a delightful down-home feel to it.

Why have them at all if you're not going to care for them? My heart went out to all the kids involved in this story and made me so, so grateful for the wonderful childhood I had, raised by loving, devoted parents. Monica writes very fluidly and pulls no punches. She seems to hide nothing -- from her bed-wetting as a child to her sex life, she shares... (show more)

My heart went out to all the kids involved in this story and made me so, so grateful for the wonderful childhood I had, raised by loving, devoted parents. Monica writes very fluidly and pulls no punches. She seems to hide nothing -- from her bed-wetting as a child to her sex life, she shares completely with the reader. I think this exceptionally brave, especially from someone who was, very literally, exposed in public from a young age. This was a emotionally difficult at times, but still a book I'm glad I read.
