Reviews I've Written

  • Napolean Bonaparte
    Alan Schom

I enjoyed the material, but he couldn't decide if this was going to be a popular history book, or one for Napoleonic scholars.

  • American Sphinx: The Character of Thomas Jefferson
    Joseph J. Ellis

A unique book in that it is written by an obvious admirer of Jefferson, but does not make excuses for his obvious excesses, idiosyncracies, or occasional self delusions. Overall, an honest look over a truly mysterious character in revolutionary history.

  • American Lion: Andrew Jackson in the White House
    Jon Meacham

A good overview of the life of a unique character. I would have liked to see a little more soul searching on the moral ramifications in regard to the times of Jackson's terrible policies toward's the Indians, but this is not the first author to neglect that discussion. Especially poignant is the description of the relationship between Jackson in his wife. The scene of her death is absolutely heart-wrenching.
