Reviews I've Written

  • The Rite: The Making of a Modern Exorcist
    Matt Baglio

This book scared the pants off me. I was originally worried this would be a bland review of Catholic doctrine, or one big scare-fest reliving scenes from the movie "The Exorcist" over and over. It was neither. This book was a very interesting story chronicling the journey of a Parish Priest, comfortable in the daily activities required to administer to his parish, as he volunteers to be the diocesan exorcist and is sent to Rome for training. It was neither. This book was a very interesting story chronicling the journey of a Parish Priest, comfortable in the daily activities required to administer to his parish, as he volunteers to be the diocesan exorcist and is sent to Rome for training. It is watching an everyday person like you or I, who has no concept of how raw evil can be, and plopping him into the middle of a battle. Very well written, this book will grab you interest and hold you. By the end, you will have a whole new respect for a realm many don't like to speak about. (show less)

Saint, the second book of this series was much faster paced. This is slower but much more interesting and a little deeper.
The premise of the book is fascinating and actually a little scary. In 2033, tolerance of religion actually becomes almost a religion itself where actually living your faith is considered disrespectful to another. Essentially religion is neutered. The book also wraps up a lot of the series - what happens to the kids from the dungeon, what happened to Marsuvees Black, and ... (show more)

Saint, is by far the fastest moving of the series. Matter of fact, it is probably my favorite book. Although, I have to admit Sinner (the next book) was very interesting. I read nothing negative about this book, and I have to say it lives up to the hype. The great thing about this series is that although all the books tie into each other they are very different - different speed, different focus, and just well written.
