This book was great. Most of the other reviewers have captured the essence of the contents of the book and its purpose. It does deal with the "darkness of sin". Don't let that deter you. This book was great. Most of the other reviewers have captured the essence of the contents of the book and its purpose. It does deal with the "darkness of sin". Don't let that deter you. The picture is dark because it is real-taking the reader to the reality of the horrors of sin, its consequences and the power of God to overcome it. While many of us turn a simple eye to the "sinfulness of sin," moving quickly past it to the forgiveness and grace, Driscoll picks broken people to illuminate how real, visceral and damaging sin truly is - which magnifies the grace of God in forgiving us, dying for us and paying the ultimate price to redeem us from the power of sin, death and the Devil.
I hope you pick up this book if you want to grow in your devotion to God or grow in your appreciation of the cross. Not only that, but I believe you will be exposed to how Jesus can work in your own life, and learn how to bear the burdens of those around you that are hurting deep down from being scared by sin. This was an easy rule and was a sweet read. While I'm not on board with every position, for instance where our schooling system should take us. However, I do appreciate the perspective and insight he has. A bright mind for a dark time. I think Christians should pick this book up and challenge their thinking, Mohlers and Scripture and allow the process to grow you in how you respond to our culture by representing Jesus Christ.

Ok. This book is pretty much all about hype. Sure its great to take a look at Christianity from a different angle and refresh our perspectives. For that - I must say I appreciate it. But sadly, I don't appreciate that a Pastor is leading people down a wrong road. Bell synthesizes information poorly, mixing truth with error in the same paragraph, leaving the reader worse off than before. After reading different sections, I'm mezmorized by the charmer across from me at a bar, but then the next ... (show more)

After reading different sections, I'm mezmorized by the charmer across from me at a bar, but then the next morning waking up somewhere foreign, after being drugged.

I don't recommend this book for a new Christian, nor do I recommend it for the person who can't solidly defend their faith straight from scripture.
If you can't do that go pick up the Bible and get to know the real Jesus first for yourself. (show less)
