Return of the Crimson Guard
Ian Cameron EsslemontLoved it! It was a lot harder to get into than 'Night of Knives', mostly because there were more characters, more complex storyline etc. BUT an excellent, excellent read.

A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, Book 1)
George R. R. MartinI had just finished reading books 1-7 of Steven Erikson's Malazan series and was hungry for more quality reading. My brother recommended this one. I admit it didn't really grab me until near the end but that's kind of how it works. He's set up the stage, introduced a rich, complex and believable cast and now I'm hooked. Excellent book.
